Chicken Chapli Kebab • Flavorful Pakistani Dish! | Club Foody

How did I come across this amazing Pakistani dish called Chicken Chapli Kebab? From my friend Tony… He wasn’t really a home cook but his mother was and that is how I got my first taste of this incredible kebab!

Chicken Chapli Kebab is packed with flavor! It is on the spicy side but not that extreme although a pretty fair amount of red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper are added to this recipe. Of course, it always depends on your tolerance to “spicy” and you can always adjust the amounts.

Talking about spice there’s one that is not very popular in Western culture but it should be because besides being an amazing addition in recipes, it also has some great medicinal benefits. It’s called “ajwain”. First let’s start with the culinary aspect of it.

– Ajwain can be purchased as a seed or powder. When it’s whole, it looks similar to fennel, caraway or cumin seeds. It tastes somewhat bitter and has a flavor comparable to oregano and anise and smells similar to thyme.
– From the medicinal aspect of this herb, it has great benefits for stomach disorders. Added to boiled water, it can calm abdominal pain and colic, reduce bloating, flatulence and diarrhea and help with indigestion. This is definitely a naturally healthy ingredient to have around for these situations…

I enjoy this spice and you should definitely get some. If you don’t have an Indian/Pakistani grocery store nearby, ajwain can be purchased online at amazon.com

To make this recipe you need ground chicken. If you buy it from your supermarket, you’ll pay more for it. On the other hand, if you grind your meat at home, you’ll save money plus it’s not very complicated at all. To learn more about it, click on this link… Grind Chicken & Save Money

This summer, surprise your friends and family with this Chicken Chapli Kebab. You can serve this dish with sliced onions, lemon wedges, tomato slices and Naan Bread. This is an incredibly tasty and amazing recipe to enjoy…

Spicy Pork Gyoza • A Tasty Japanese Dumpling! | Club Foody

I don’t recall the first time I had potstickers but I do know when I enjoyed my first gyoza. I was with my friend Michael also amicably known as Judge Ito (the resemblance is incredible). He took me to Chinatown near Spadina Avenue in Toronto. That day, I had a crash course on the difference between potstickers and gyoza…

First, potstickers originated in China. As the name implies, they stick to the bottom of a wok (pot) which makes them crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. While the two dumplings are pretty much the same, the Japanese took this delicious Chinese recipe and recreated them their way, calling them gyoza.

Gyoza dumplings are smaller than potstickers which make them a great appetizer. The wrappers are normally commercially made while potstickers are mostly homemade making them thicker and less delicate than gyoza.

Although both are prepared the same way, the filling of a gyoza has a finer texture as the ingredients are minced. The cooking method for both are similar but at the same time somewhat different. As I’m still not exactly sure what is what, I won’t venture to explain any further… One thing I do know is that I love making my Spicy Pork Gyoza!

After I went with Michael for gyoza, I just had to experiment with them. Oh my! Let me tell you that it wasn’t obvious at first to try to recreate gyoza at home. Inexperienced, folding was my big issue but surprisingly, I got the hang of it pretty fast. I’m sure I will never win any “dumpling folding” contests but for a non-Asian woman, I’m still proud of the results.

I’ve modified my Spicy Pork Gyoza recipe year after year until I finally added an important key ingredient that makes this gyoza recipe so delicious… my Chili Oil! This Chinese condiment is so flavorful and obviously a bit spicy. It gives just the right tone to the dumplings making the filling so flavorful!

Moist, tender and so delicious, this Japanese Spicy Pork Gyoza recipe is definitely a dish you have to make. Seriously, don’t be intimidated by the crimping… it’s easier than you think…

Classic Pasta Salad Recipe • A Summer Favorite! | Club Foody

Summer is officially here and with backyard parties, picnics and family gatherings, there are certain foods that are requested more than others. We don’t want anything too heavy but definitely fresh and tasty… a dish that represents summer like this Classic Pasta Salad!

Throughout the years, I’ve been posting different salad recipes. Some fit well for colder months such as my Winter Citrus SaladAsian Chicken Salad, and so on, while others are perfect for summer time like my Greek SaladStrawberry SaladJicama Mango Pepper SaladCreamy Bacon Potato Salad, etc. To me, salads can be enjoyed anytime during the year but I have to say that I prefer eating my Classic Pasta Salad during the summer…

I love vegetables and this salad is packed with them. Not only is this salad colorful but it’s also healthy and flavorful. It’s a rainbow of yumminess! I prefer to make my own dressing/vinaigrette but I know that some of you will probably use a store-bought dressing or vinaigrette. So you have some options but if you are like me and enjoy fresh and tasty, here are a few homemade recipes you can use such as Roasted Red Pepper Parmesan Vinaigrette, Blue Cheese DressingRaspberry VinaigretteThousand Island DressingMandarin Orange Vinaigrette with SesameRussian DressingZippy Ranch Dressing, and many more…

The day I was filming, I didn’t add ham to the Pasta Salad because that night I was serving it with Hamburgers. As much as I enjoy proteins, I thought it was a little too much. Don’t be afraid to use certain ingredients you enjoy… after all it’s your salad! As I’ve said many times – “Adjust the recipe to your liking”

You won’t go wrong serving this Classic Pasta Salad at your next summer get together. It’s delicious, extremely appealing visually and quite healthy, using fresh ingredients. That’s what I call a great summer side dish!

Passion Fruit Ice Cream • Great Exotic Flavor! | Club Foody

With 94 days of summer this year, not only will we be enjoying the outdoors as much as we can but also its foods. Although we can have them anytime of the year, there are certain foods that definitely taste “better” during the warm summer months like… ice cream!

It’s incredible to see how many different varieties of ice cream certain parlors have to offer. Of course, many of them carry the most popular ones. I don’t blame them because business is business and obviously they don’t want to waste anything. On the other hand, when you make ice cream at home, you can create flavors that no one carries such as my Passion Fruit Ice Cream!

This incredible ice cream is very delicious! Made with this exotic fruit, this cold treat is perfect for the season! It’s an eggless recipe plus it’s also a “no churn” one… no need to buy an ice cream machine although you should – homemade tastes much better!

This Passion Fruit Ice Cream is a flavor you won’t find at any stand. It is very tasty and so different from the regular ones. This can be a great flavor for a banana split if you decide to step things up from the traditional flavors which are vanilla-chocolate-strawberry…

David and I will be throwing an “ 80s’/Hawaiian Theme” party this summer and this Passion Fruit Ice Cream will be perfect for the occasion. Use whichever excuse you need, this cold treat is a great way to celebrate the summer…

Grind Chicken & Save Money • Tips & Tricks | Club Foody

When David and I go grocery shopping, we are shocked when we see how much they charge us for ground poultry! Yes, I know… there’s an extra step that the butcher has to do but does it really cost that much more. If you own a stand mixer, most of the brands out there have other attachments to add to your appliance. Buying a meat grinder is so worth it especially if you make your own ground meat, sausage or steak tartare.

In this episode, I’ll show you how to Grind Chicken & Save Money! It’s not hard but there are a few important things to do it properly. Without going into too much detail, the most crucial step is to keep everything cold and I mean very cold. At all times, the meat should remain chilled because not only does it make it easier to grind but it’s also “meat safe”.

When you Grind Chicken & Save Money, there are a few tips you need to know. If you want a very lean meat, choose skinless, boneless chicken breasts. If you want juicier meat, grind skinned, boned chicken thighs and drumsticks. If you want more flavor then use turkey wings, breasts, thighs and drumsticks.

Besides this Grind Chicken & Save Money trick, I also have another kitchen tips & tricks for chicken… How to Poach & Shred Chicken the Easy Way!

Middle East Muhammara • Delicious Pepper Dip! | Club Foody

When you have the culinary curiosity that makes you want to try all the cuisines around the world, it becomes a great flavorful adventure! Since I was little, my curiosity to discover other cultures always enticed me. As I got older and developed a better appreciation for food, my curiosity also grew to learn even more about foreign recipes.

We’re probably all familiar with hummus and enjoy its taste, but there’s another kind of dip that David and I really enjoy. From the same region of the world, this one is my Middle East Muhammara! This is such a lovely and flavorful dish.

What exactly is muhammara?

It’s a dish that can be used as a dip, spread or an accompaniment for kebabs or other grilled meat such as my Lamb Kofta. It’s basically a combination of roasted red peppers, toasted walnuts and other great spices, making this Middle East Muhammara quite delicious…

When I mentioned above that it can be used as a spread, I wasn’t kidding! We use it with a chicken or roast beef sandwich. It is not something you’ll find at your local deli but I’m telling you, the flavors are incredible! We also use it on burgers… wow, that’s quite yummy!

As unorthodox as this recipe is in our Western culture, the use of this Middle East Muhammara is very versatile. According to David, this is superior to hummus although I disagree as I enjoy either of them. With a mix of sweetness and a slight spiciness from the Aleppo peppers and hot paprika, this is definitely a great recipe to share with your friends…

Greek Pizza • Flavorful Mediterranean Pizza! | Club Foody

How many times have you heard that home cooking is the best… and it’s true! You add your favorite ingredients, herbs and spices to your recipes. You are in control of what goes in it and how much you use. It’s fresher, cheaper and also healthier. There are less artificial flavors and preservatives.

According to psychologists, cooking meals at home can relax you helping to reduce stress. Now if you are filming what you’re making and have a deadline to meet (this is if you own a cooking website), it is NOT and I repeat not relaxing at all… but that’s another topic… lol! Maybe one day I should write about how things can go wrong when you are filming a recipe for a food blog…

Back to a more positive and less stressful note… – writing helps me to relax… who knew!

What’s fun about making food at home is you can experiment with ingredients, herbs and spices. The perfect example is my Greek Pizza! The ingredients used blend so well together. With shredded chicken, veggies, feta and other flavorful ingredients, this is quite an original pizza…

I know most of you will try to find a quicker way to make this pizza by buying premade crusts but if you do want to take that extra step, I love to make my Rustic Italian Pizza Dough for this Greek Pizza as well as when I make my Quattro Formaggi which is coming up in 2020. It helps to make it so… Mediterranean!

This Greek Pizza has its own authentic taste! Besides its amazing ingredients, I like to drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over just before the pizza hits the oven. This little touch brings the ingredients in this flavorful dish together. Next time you decide to make pizza at home, you definitely have to try this one… and you’ll know why after your very first slice!

Hamburger Buns Recipe • Easy, Fresh & Incredibly Delicious! | Club Foody

Here on the Canadian West Coast, we’re able to barbecue pretty much all year round but to me, the BBQ season really starts when the weather warms up until the first signs of “winter”. When it comes to barbecuing food, there’s one dish that I really enjoy… burgers! A nice juicy burger on the barbie with all the goodies trapped between two buns… YUM!

I have a few burger recipes that I’ve already posted, my Chipotle Stuffed Bronto BurgerMexican BurgersSmoky Porky BurgersItalian Burgers with Tomato SlawBlue Cheese Burgers and many more coming in the future. It doesn’t matter which flavor or recipe you use to make your burgers, the common denominator is what holds everything together… the Hamburger Buns!

Years ago soon after I started making my own bread, one food vessel I really wanted to make from scratch was Hamburger Buns. Being a big fan of burgers on the “barbie”, I had no choice but to try making this particular bread. To be honest, it took me a few tries before this recipe was bullet proof. After I finally got it, it’s become a popular staple during the BBQ season. Homemade burgers with homemade buns… it’s a match made in culinary heaven!

There’s one important part of this recipe that shouldn’t be ignored and it is the “towel”. While some cooks use plastic wrap that will most likely stick to the buns and deflate them, I use a very “light” kitchen towel. If you don’t have one, try to find a thin tea towel. That should do the trick.

Do yourself a favor for your next backyard BBQ party, make these fluffy, soft and tasty Hamburger Buns. Your guests will be impressed and they will make such a flavorful difference when serving your favorite burgers, your Pulled Pork sandwich or even Turkey à la King on these buns. If you want another great “bbq favorite”, try these Hot Dog Buns, they’re amazing!
